Few people are familiar with the role and power of mediation and mediators, and fewer yet who are aware of the potential value of this weapon in the Occupy arsenal.
As defined by Wikipedia, mediation is a form of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) in which a third party (the mediator) assists in resolving disputes between two or more parties with “concrete effects.”

Exactly how can “concrete effects” be reached in as anarchic a political/social movement as we’ve seen in the past 50 years – non-hierarchical and “leaderless” as they describe themselves?  And how can people within the movement employ mediation and mediators in furthering their goals?

Victoria Pynchon, a well-known and respected expert and practitioner of ADR and most recently the author of the book “Success as a Mediator – for Dummies” believes she has the answer.
Pay special attention to today’s topic and guest dealing with the art of mediation.  It should become required listening for anyone who has yearned for an alternative to the legalistic, aggressive, noisy and expensive use of the courts.  Properly understood and practiced, mediation has historically brought about not only peaceful settlements in all sorts of disputes, but in many cases healed relationships as well.

The latter is what attracted Vickie away from a fine career as an attorney.  And, considering that the Occupy movement is intent on healing the ripped social and economic fabric of our country, this may also invite you as the listener to add ADR to your skill set.
