We explore the meaning of our emotions: why every emotion needs to be expressed. If we ignore or suppress our most powerful emotions, the result could be physical illness, explosive rage, depression and impaired relationships. Every emotion needs to acknowledged and expressed – in a healthy, adaptive way.
Calming Our Emotions: The Principles of Cognitive Therapy
Cognitive therapy is an approach that can help us control our emotions by becoming aware of the thoughts that underlie and trigger our emotional responses. We talk about the three levels of belief: our automatic thoughts, our underlying assumptions and our core beliefs.
