Positive Potential Medicine 24: Balancing Your Life, The 4th Mantra of Meditation
Balancing Your Life
Health is a balance of the important areas of your life and achieving your potential in each of them. Because life is constantly changing and we are constantly moving, this is a dynamic balance. When we lose our balance, when should you ask for help? Choose your personal goals in each of the important areas of your life.
The 4th Question and the 4th Mantra: What am I saying? Speak the truth.
Dr. Dave talks with Vanessa about the fourth level of his 7 Questions, 7 Mantras Meditation method. We are judged by our words and actions – even when we act impulsively and speak without reflection. Are we speaking from the perspective of our egos, our little selves, or are we speaking from our greater Selves? An exercise in mindfulness: for one day, reflect on every word you say. Is what you are saying bringing you closer or further from your true self? Is what you are saying building bridges and connecting you to others? Is it supportive of the other person or is it for your own benefit? In your speech, let your true self shine through.
Mini-Medical School
In Vanessa’s first day in Mini-Medical School, Dr. Dave talks about the iconic instrument of medicine, the stethoscope. What does the doctor hear? The meaning of crackles, wheezes and stridor. How the stethoscope is used on the abdomen and over the heart.

Before You Fill That Prescription . . .
The four essential things you should know about any treatment – prescription or herbal. What you need to know before you fill that prescription. Is anything free of side effects?
The Third Question and the Third Mantra: What am I doing? Walk in Grace.
Dr. Dave walks with Vanessa through the third level in his 7 Questions, 7 Mantras Meditation method. Too often we act automatically or reactively and find ourselves far from where we want to be. We are judged by our actions even when they don’t reflect our authentic selves. To walk in grace is to act in alignment with your deepest values and greatest goals. Ask, “Am I moving closer or further from my true self.” To walk in grace is to accept each day what life gives you as a gift – to be graciously opened and used.
What’s Inside the Doctor’s Head
Who knows what thoughts lurk inside your doctor’s head? We do, and so will you. Why doctors can sometimes lose touch with feelings – yours and theirs. How do doctors arrive at the correct diagnosis? Two key questions to keep your doctor from jumping to the wrong conclusion.

Positive Potential Medicine 19 : Finding Meaning in Life – Answering Your Calling
Health is more than the absence of disease, and life is more than just living. We are each called to achieve our positive potential in this life and to help those around us to achieve theirs. I’ll talk about the work of Joseph Campbell, the reknowned mythologist popularized in Bill Moyers’ PBS series, The Power of Myth, and his invitation to “follow your bliss”. We can not only live healthy lives but also meaningful live engaged in our calling, the intersection of our passions, our talents and the needs of the world.
