Global Vision # 5: Compassionate Listening Project
The Compassionate Listening Project began in 1990 as a Mid-East Citizen Diplomacy organization and has expanded to serve conflicting sides in Israel, Palestine, Germany, Rwanda and the Soviet Union. Trained volunteers go to these countries and listen to both sides in a conflict, facilitating healing and reconciliation. Often both sides in a conflict just want to be heard. Buddhist Monk Thich Nhat Hanh, was one of the founders teachers, and the essence of his teachings is “a call for peacemakers to initiate humanizing contact and cultivate compassion for those on all sides of a conflict.”
